This specialization is one of the most important health disciplines dealing with pregnancy, childbirth, postnatal care, including care for newborns, and women’s sexual and reproductive health throughout their lives. In many countries, midwifery is considered a medical profession. It’s worth mentioning that midwives are trained to recognize and handle normal occurrences, while obstetricians specialize in pregnancy-related conditions and surgery. Thus, midwifery is seen as an assisting profession to obstetrics. Midwifery specialization encompasses caring for women during pregnancy, labor, postpartum, and newborn care. It includes measures aimed at preventing health problems during pregnancy, detecting abnormal cases, and obtaining medical assistance when necessary, as well as implementing emergency measures in the absence of medical assistance.

The number of years of studying midwifery in Turkey is 4 years.
One year of study, which is a preparatory year for the language, may be increased if the student is not fluent in one of the two languages, whether Turkish or English.
